“Kristina Milakovic shapes the canvas space by recreating memories of introspective landscapes in which environmental and architectural elements merge into timeless plastic organisms. The artist creates another reality in which a constant struggle between what is and what she would like it to be consummated, without ever reaching resolution, everything is created under the impulse of bipolar emotions, and everything is destroyed, where every sensation is legitimate, where everything is possible, where its essence can translate into simple touches of red. Her works are often formed by distinct bodies unable to join, as the broken bridge sanctions the disintegration of a network of relationships, so his bare but essential landscapes are captured in their ephemeral nature.

What Kristina offers us are real snapshots of her emotional journey: every construction or landscape takes on a silent and silent flavor in which the death of that moment of inspiration is all that remains ”.

Below critical note by Rossella Savarese

Kristina Milakovic was born in Belgrade in 1976, contaminated by art from a young age, thanks to her self-taught Serbian painter mother who teaches her, in their home studio, the basics and the first essential approaches to the world of art. She moved to Florence in Italy to follow her academic studies, her place of origin, having not lived through the war years, remains in her memory linked to a peaceful time. She completed her training course in Rome, the city where she still operates today.

Often imaginary cities, the shreds of a suspension bridge in mid-air, rural landscapes, the details of architectural elements along the time of an artistic evolution leave on the canvas less and less evident traces of figurative scent with the structuring of a language more properly abstract which highlights the artist’s need for a more gestural and instinctive painting. Painter and woman with a strong temperament succeeds in the place-space of a canvas to synthesize dreamlike mutations of an unreal time in which, incisive and substantial, a personal trait remains through a highly emotional painting, synthesis of an inner torment that manifests itself in a pictorial making free from schematics or preparatory drawings. By observing his works one can perceive memories, reflections, latent images such as a constant substrate and trace on which the artist remodels fields of color and flashes of light.

The Opera I choose is titled “The white night”, a medium-sized canvas in which the artist modulates the application of color on two floors, a thin but incisive line demarcates the two spaces in which the emotional story takes place.

“Two is not double but the opposite of one, of its solitude” reminds us the writer Erri De Luca. In the space of a canvas Kristina synthesizes an intuition, a shock before the realization of the work, the white fusion of all colors is also present in the dark night, in harmony and not in contrast with the black given by the absence of all the colors and being part of only one possible space, in an epiphanic and reuniting time.

The technique it is acrylic on canvas, acrylic with brush application, dimensions 100 x 40 cm.
