Franco Paternostro was born in Cosenza, where he lives and works. From a very young age he showed a great interest in art, beginning his first studies on the concept of form, experimenting with the peculiarities that it takes on in artistic execution. After dedicating himself for a long time to a more refined and above all more refined and meticulous art, the goldsmith and gemological art, he continued his study in the visual arts and directed his attention to the meticulous experimentation of matter and materials. His artistic gesture immediately places him in the informal sector, as the artist himself has stated in several interviews that his art responds to an inner need because he lives deeply, as a man and as an artist, the problems of this contemporaneity, resulting in a very difficult representation in formal and classical terms – Franco Paternostro’s art is on several levels of reading: from informal to conceptual, from rigorism to metamorphism, already ready. It is certain that whatever the sector to which it can be compared, his artistic gesture remains unique and original. It seems apparently strange to have to attribute to an artist of our variegated contemporaneity, a specificity of his own, one and only peculiarity and identity mark. It would be enough to reflect for a moment on the concept of art that from Duchamp himself onwards we try to emphasize, that is, that any object or subject can lose its primordial function and through an artistic intervention, become something else.
